May 20 – Bee the Spark!

Today we celebrate World Bee Day, a global reminder of how vital bees and pollinators are to life on Earth. Established by the United Nations in 2017, this day honors the birthday of Slovenian beekeeper Anton Janša and calls us to protect these incredible insects.
A Brief History of Bees & Beekeeping

Bees have existed for over 100 million years. Humans have been harvesting honey for at least 8,000–10,000 years, with organized beekeeping appearing in ancient Egypt around 4,500 years ago. Honey was so valued it was placed in pharaohs’ tombs. Through the centuries, beekeeping spread worldwide, blending ancient wisdom with modern regenerative practices.

Why Bees Are Essential
  • They pollinate one in every three bites of food we eat (fruits, vegetables, nuts, coffee, chocolate, and more).
  • Their work supports biodiversity and is worth billions to global agriculture.
  • Healthy bee populations mean healthier ecosystems and food security.

The Gifts of the Hive

Royal Jelly – The superfood fed to queen bees. Packed with proteins, B vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants, it supports immunity, vitality, skin health, and longevity.

Raw Honey – Nature’s original medicine:
  • Antibacterial and soothing for coughs, sore throats, and wounds
  • Rich in antioxidants and prebiotics for gut health
  • Quick natural energy with a gentler effect on blood sugar than refined sugar
  • Local raw honey can help with seasonal allergies

Other Hive Treasures:
Propolis (immune support), beeswax (candles, balms), and pollen (nutrient powerhouse).

How to Choose Quality Honey
  • Raw & Unpasteurized – Never heated above 118°F (48°C). Keeps enzymes, pollen, and healing compounds intact.
  • Look for local, unfiltered, and single-origin (Manuka, Buckwheat, Wildflower, etc.).
  • Real honey naturally crystallizes — that’s a good sign!
  • Avoid anything with added syrups or “honey blend.”
