Sweet Potato Campaign
A Living Gift of Health & Food Security
At Phoenix Voyage we believe real change starts in the soil and in our neighborhoods.
Handing someone a living sweet potato start is one of the simplest, most powerful acts of regeneration we can offer. One small plant can become pounds of nutrient-dense food that supports vision, immunity, gut health, and steady energy. It puts real food security directly into a family’s hands and teaches children how food grows — from the soil up.
This is why we are adopting and promoting this campaign:
It is practical, open-source in spirit, neighbor-to-neighbor, and completely aligned with our mission of regenerative growing, household resilience, and sharing living abundance.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or aligned with any political party. Our focus remains regenerative growing, food security, and the deep health benefits of nutrient-dense food.

How to Get Organic Sweet Potato Starts
Sweet potatoes grow from “slips” (rooted sprouts), not seeds.Best ways:
- Grow your own from an organic sweet potato
- Buy organic (organic already means non-GMO).
- Conventional ones are often treated with sprout inhibitors.
- Suspend half in water with toothpicks or bury halfway in moist soil in a warm, bright spot. Slips appear in 2–6 weeks. Twist them off at 5–8 inches and root in water.
- Buy organic slips from local nurseries, farmers markets, or trusted online organic suppliers in spring.
The Simple Playbook
- Get or grow organic starts
- Begin with your own street and neighbors
- Offer the living plant as a free gift with zero conditions
- Optionally share the joy of growing food at home
- Let the plant itself prove the value

| Nutrient (approx. per 100g cooked) | Sweet Potato | White / Russet Potato |
|---|---|---|
| Calories | ~90 | ~90–95 |
| Fiber | Higher (≈3.3g) | Lower (≈2.1–2.3g) |
| Vitamin A | Extremely high (often 100%+ DV) | Almost none |
| Potassium | Good | Higher |
| Vitamin C | Good | Moderate |
| Glycemic impact | Often slightly lower when boiled | Higher, especially when baked |
Bottom line:
Both are nutritious whole foods. Sweet potatoes stand out for Vitamin A and fiber. Regular potatoes are excellent for potassium. Preparation method (boiling vs baking/frying) matters more than the type for blood sugar response.Quick guide to common potato types:
- Russet – High starch, fluffy when baked, classic baking potato
- Yukon Gold – Medium starch, buttery, versatile all-purpose
- Red – Waxy, holds shape well, good for salads and boiling
- Purple / Blue – Higher in anthocyanins (antioxidants)
- Sweet Potato – Botanically different (morning glory family), richest in beta-carotene
