Edible Parks & Community Gardens
One of our earliest and most joyful projects has been helping communities create Edible Parks — beautiful public spaces where anyone can grow and share fresh food.
We worked with dedicated communities in Tanzania, Uganda, and several other countries in Africa. The response was incredible — the idea went viral, gardens were planted, and real magic happened. Families gained fresh food, children learned to grow plants, and entire neighborhoods came together in a spirit of cooperation and care for the Earth.
Where We Are Now
2020 brought a pause to many of these projects, as it did for so much around the world. However, some of the original gardens are still thriving today, quietly continuing to feed and inspire their communities.
We are now in the process of gently re-igniting and expanding this program. We’re updating the Hamlet Starter Packet (our practical guide with layouts, plant lists, and step-by-step instructions) so more communities can easily create their own Edible Parks.
If you have a garden project already growing, or feel inspired to start one, we would love to hear from you. This work is very much alive and we’re excited to pick it back up with fresh energy as soon as resources and team support allow.
