World Rainforest Fund
The World Rainforest Fund is a non-profit organization founded in 1984, dedicated to preserving biodiversity and saving rainforests worldwide, primarily tropical rainforest, and mainly in Latin America. Our focus is on the Brazilian Amazon, since this is the largest intact rainforest on earth. The methods we use are empowering indigenous people to help them save their rainforest homes; giving grants to worthy, qualified non-profit organizations doing projects of special value to conserve rainforests; and public education in the United States. Following is elaboration on the three major methods we employ to save rainforests.
The Rainforest Biodiversity Group
The Rainforest Biodiversity Group is a 501(c)3 non-profit with over twelve years of experience protecting rainforest habitat in the tropics. We have done this through a variety of initiatives that include reforestation, environmental education and outreach, tree protection programs, development of alternative livelihoods, and conservation easements. Most recently, we have launched a Small Grant Program to support other non-profits doing similar work to protect rainforest biodiversity.
Tropical Conservation - Bat Research Group
We’re a diffused group of conservation ecologists based at the Universities of Lisbon (Portugal), Salford (UK), Helsinki (Finland), Madeira (Portugal), the Natural Science Museum of Granollers (Catalonia) and at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (Brazil). Most of our current work relates to the evaluation of the effects of habitat fragmentation and agriculture expansion upon tropical forest communities, and to the assessment of species persistence in humanized landscapes. We have ongoing projects in the Brazilian Amazon, Kenya, and Madagascar.
Rainforest Foundation Norway

Rainforest Action Network
Great site!!!!! In our first direct-action campaign, we led a nationwide boycott of Burger King. Burger King was importing cheap beef from tropical countries where rainforests are denuded to provide pasture for cattle. This campaign succeeded in several ways. After sales dropped 12% during the boycott in 1987, Burger King cancelled $35 million worth of beef contracts in Central America and announced that they had stopped importing rainforest beef.

Restoring Rainforests:
Increasing Productivity and Rehabilitating Degraded Habitats
In reducing the loss of tropical rainforests, we must not only be concerned with the transformation of existing natural ecosystems, but also with the more rational utilization of already cleared and degraded areas. To lessen future forest loss we must increase and sustain the productivity of farms, pastures, plantations, and scrub land in addition to restoring species and ecosystems to degraded habitats. By reducing wasteful land-use practices, consolidating gains on existing cleared lands, and improving already developed lands we can diminish the need to clear additional rainforest.
